Zero to hundred pistachio breeding

Breeding pistachios from zero to one hundred!

Growing pistachios is very valuable because pistachios are one of the favorite foods of most people in the world. The interesting thing about pistachios is that eating too much of them does not cause illness and does not harm your health. Most people believe that growing pistachios is a difficult and difficult task, while they are very wrong. In this article, we intend to describe pistachio growing completely from the beginning to its packaging and sale. Iranian Pistachio

The only significant point for growing pistachios is the long period of its growth. When you start growing pistachios, you have to wait between 5 and 8 years until you get a suitable product. But considering the high value of pistachio and its ability to export, it can be said that it is really worth waiting for a good product. If you are ready to endure this patience, stay with us in the rest of the article!

Where is the right place to plant pistachios?

Suitable areas for growing pistachios are areas with cold winters. But not the winter that is freezing. Also, that area must have a hot summer and some rain. Semi-arid desert locations are ideal areas. Pistachio prefers the air temperature to be more than 37 degrees Celsius. Also, pistachios do not like high areas. Because high areas often have low temperatures and pistachios do not survive in temperatures below 9 degrees below zero. Wet areas are not suitable for planting and growing pistachios.

Should I plant pistachio seedlings or pistachio seeds?

You can plant both pistachio seeds and pistachio seedlings. Planting pistachio seeds may take several years to bear fruit. Therefore, if you are impatient like me, I recommend you to use pistachio seedlings.

Planting seedlings

Plant in pairs!

A female pistachio tree needs a male tree to produce nuts. Normally and empirically, you need to plant 1 male tree for every 15 female trees. But the problem is that it is difficult to distinguish male and female seedlings before 7 years. Often, to make sure that a pistachio seedling is among the female ones, they plant several male-looking seedlings to make sure that there is a male seedling.

planting seeds

If you have decided to plant pistachio seeds instead of planting seedlings, you should pay attention to the fact that you must buy raw seeds. To buy a suitable seed, you can buy it from a reputable seed store. To grow pistachio and turn it into a mature tree, pay attention to the following points:

Moisten a towel or napkin and put the seeds in it. From time to time, it is not bad to move the top of the seeds to allow air to flow through the napkin.

Keep the wet towel at room temperature and wait a week for the seeds to germinate.

When the seeds start to germinate, it is better to transfer them to a small cup or pot. Make sure that the bottom of the pot has a hole for water to escape. The lack of proper drainage and pores causes the seed to die before it reaches the growth stage. Pay attention not to water the pot too much.

After the passage of time and proper rooting of the young seeds, you should transfer them to bigger pots. They should be kept in those pots until they reach the level of seedlings and then plant them outside.

The need for sunlight and soil nutrients

The best place to grow pistachios is where the sun shines fully. Pistachio cultivation requires nutty soil. Also, for the proper growth of seedlings, you must adjust the acidity or alkalinity of the soil. Pistachios like soil with a pH between 7 and 7.5. This amount means that the soil acidity is neutral.

The distance between pistachio trees

The pistachio tree can grow up to 10 meters, so you should pay attention to the distances when planting. Plant seedlings at a distance of 4 to 5 meters and leave a distance of 5 to 6 meters between rows. Be careful not to disturb the electric wire or other objects around your seedling.ش
